Hello, we've got some incredible updates to share with you! And to start out, yes the photo for this post is a sonogram for soon to be born and adopted baby boy we have named Zion. But first off, the amazing woman who has chosen us to adopt. We've been in touch with her for many weeks now, and let me tell you, it's been an absolute pleasure building a new relationship. From sharing precious pregnancy moments like sonogram photos and even getting to see how the baby moves in her belly, we're just overflowing with gratitude for her openness!
In our previous adoption post, I wrote based on the theme "Imagine." which was centered around the approach of appealing to a mother seeking a home for a baby based on our Christian values, the facilities for a baby to grow, learn, and receive care, and more. From our perspective, it seemed these things would make us choosable and would be what mattered most to a mom. But that was before having this experience with a very special mother. since we've had great communication with her, we are beginning to understand better the true areas of focus. Ultimately, it is not just about our home, and not just about mom and the baby’s health, but also their overall sense of well-being and assurance that they won’t be alone. Health in itself is a broad term. And throughout this or any adoptive pregnancy journey - health may be impacted by periods of loneliness, discomfort, doctors' appointments without much support, possible emergencies, and other life challenges. All in all, these are the more immediate and critical needs to meet. Essentially, anyone involved in a private adoption agreement needs to consider what it might be like to be in the other person’s shoes. It’s like, “What might make this more supportive for them?” more so than, “How can I promote myself?” The most valuable assets are prayer, communication, consistency, confidentiality, dignity, and resources. We're incredibly blessed to have someone in our lives working with us every day as the baby’s birth approaches, using those valuable assets.🙏✨
Looking ahead, we're all gearing up for this next chapter in our lives. Our focus is on supporting the birth mom in every possible way - it’s not just the ritual, legalistic, stuff that we see so often through Facebook. Honestly, we are treating this more like a friendship, a relationship, and using what we have collectively to help this baby.
As the baby’s due date approaches, God is at work and big changes are happening. For instance, I've reached a milestone by landing a new job with New York State, a goal I've been working hard for. The timing couldn't be better since the benefits will start just when the baby is due. However, the trade-off is that I'll now have to work full-time in the office, unlike before when I worked remotely.
In response, Sirena, seeing that the baby is coming soon, has decided to resign from her job. This was a difficult choice because Sirena had invested a lot in her job as a raw food pet nutritionist and it means a significant financial loss. However, Sirena plans to re-engage with photography taking care of the baby, our bulldog sons, and our home.
Together, we are adapting to these changes with careful planning, faith, and hearts full of gratitude. Speaking of which, we want to take a moment to thank you for reading, for your prayers, and for your support throughout this journey. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue on!
